Stills from the video ‘God bless America’ (2002) by Tadasu Takamine.
Tadasu Takamine and his lovely assistant shared a room with a huge clay face for eighteen consecutive days. Before the eye of the camera, they ate, slept, read, had sex and made continuous changes to the face, animating it to keep time with a scratchy, halting recording of the American patriotic classic “God Bless America”.
‘Fabiola’ is an installation of over 300 painted copies and reproductions of fourth century Saint-Fabiola, collected by Francis Alÿs from flea markets and antique shops throughout Europe and America in the last 20 years. They are all based on a now lost original painting by french artist Jean-Jacques Henner made in the nineteenth century.
Tanner America is a satirical blog about a seemingly typical American family, the Tanners: Rob and Allison Tanner and their kids. Rob and Allison document their average lifestyle in bizarrely mundane, clearly photoshopped snapshots. Each photo depicts a moment in their lives accompanied by a short, often very funny, caption. The images are altered in such a way that they become some sort of strange sculptural works. At the same time they form an implicit critique to the Tanner’s American lifestyle and the way they use the internet.
The blog is updated on a daily basis. I have no idea who is behind this, but I’d love to know!
