I met Singaporean photographer Nguan recently, who off-handedly compared his practice to playing jazz standards – being part of a particular tradition but offering his own take on familiar subjects. His description resonated very much with me.

Tue Greenfort, ‘Water cooler’ (2008)
The artist tapped into the museum’s water supply and brought it from the basement up to the second floor, where it was cooled by frozen boxes of concentrated fruit juice and provided to visitors for free.

‘Objects of Desire’ (2005-2008) by Michael Kargl (aka Carlos Katastrofsky).
A numbered but unsigned set of sentences, which disappears from the screen as soon as the next set is automatically displayed, allows the visitor to become the owner of a unique work of art, but only as long as he or she keeps it in mind.
