Bas Schevers, ‘Impulse’ (2012)

During this one minute performance, eleven people (attendees of the opening) suddenly interrupted the existing situation with brief actions that were exaggerations of normal gallery behavior. Some examples of these simultaneously performed actions are: someone closely examining an empty corner of the space, a man was thinking of something really sad until it made him cry, two people talking to eachother while rythmically clacking their heels, someone singing in the toilet, a photographer taking pictures of the photographer and eventually two wine glasses falling on the floor in two different corners of the space at the exact same time.

Pietmondriaan.com presents: I want to believe

‘I want to believe’

A performance evening during Incubate 2012, with Bas Schevers (NL), David Sherry (UK), Jean-Charles de Quillacq (F), Jodi (NL) and Pablo Wendel (D), curated by pietmondriaan.com

The performances in this exhibition are drawn from everyday situations.
While appearing to be simple, sometimes even inconspicuous acts, they attempt to show the absurd, tragi-comical sides of daily life. The artists invite us to follow their lead and believe in their stories – or not.

‘I want to believe’ will take place on Saturday the 15th of September, 19.30hrs at NS16, NS-plein 16 in Tilburg. See you there!

Bas Schevers, ‘Hommage’ (2006)

At the 2006 edition of the Kunstvlaai in Amsterdam, Schevers set himself a set of rules with which he could seek out a work presented at the fair and copy it. He eventually chose two works by Dutch artist Jan Bokma.

Free sand‘ (2010) by Bas Schevers.

On the grounds of an art festival ten cubic meters of dune sand is placed and offered for free on several public websites. This kind of sand is often used as a substrate for tiling and pavements.
