Christian Capurro

Another Misspent Portrait of Etienne de Silhouette‘ (1999 – 2004) by Christian Capurro.

Christian Capurro asked anonymous people to erase a page from a 246-page issue of Vogue Hommes magazine from 1986. They were also asked to write in pencil on their erased page both the time it took them to do this and whatever monetary value they currently received at work for their time, translated into an hourly rate or rates. The erasing took 5 years to complete and involved over 250 people.


Ištvan Išt Huzjan

‘1981-1987’ (2009) by Ištvan Išt Huzjan.

A book consisting of seven photographs, all taken on the 1st of june (the artist’s birthdate) between 1981 and 1987. By opening a page, a sound mechanism is triggered.
The sound files coincide with the dates of the photographs, playing number-one hit songs from that date.


Phil Collins

‘The world won’t listen’ (2005) by Phil Collins.

Phil Collins asked fans in Colombia, Turkey and Indonesia to karaoke to songs of The Smiths. Working with local musicians, he re-recorded the backing tracks of the entire album. The karaoke singers are placed in front of photographs of beautiful landscapes.


Candice Breitz

Breitz gathered fans of Madonna and Michael Jackson by posting advertisements in newspapers and fan websites. They were asked to sing and dance their way through a key album. This was recorded and shown simultaneously.

Send him your money‘ (2010)

On March 21st 1979, American Artist, Chris Burden made a live performance of ‘send me your money’ on KPFK radio in Los Angeles.”‘Send me your money” is a spoken word piece in which Burden asks listeners to send the artist some money to his address at 823 Ocean Front Walk, Venice, California 90291. Ahmet Ögüt has made a re-work of this 1979 piece, with only changing Burden’s address into his address in Amsterdam. (Listen here.)
