‘Five Day Locker Piece’ (April 26-30, 1971) by Chris Burden.

At the University of California, Irvine, Chris Burden locked himself in Locker Number 5 for five consecutive days. He rigged the locker above him to hold five gallons of bottled water, while the locker below him held an empty five gallon bottle. His then-wife, Barbara, slept on the floor in front of the locker some nights, “in case I really flipped out or something,” the artist wrote in a 1975 untitled statement.

Send him your money‘ (2010)

On March 21st 1979, American Artist, Chris Burden made a live performance of ‘send me your money’ on KPFK radio in Los Angeles.”‘Send me your money” is a spoken word piece in which Burden asks listeners to send the artist some money to his address at 823 Ocean Front Walk, Venice, California 90291. Ahmet Ögüt has made a re-work of this 1979 piece, with only changing Burden’s address into his address in Amsterdam. (Listen here.)

A museum installation consisting of a 100-ton jack connected to a gear box and a turnstile. The 100-ton jack pushes two large timbers against the bearing walls of the museum. Each visitor to the museum must pass through the turnstile in order to see the exhibition. Each input on the turnstile ever so slightly expands the jack, and ultimately if enough people visit the exhibition, SAMSON could theoretically destroy the building.

Chris Burden

Shoot‘ (1971) by Chris Burden.

Chris Burden was shot in his left arm by an assistant from a distance of about five meters. Burden was taken to a psychiatrist after this piece.
