‘Main d’œuvre’ (2008) by Adam Vackar
In the project Main d’œuvre,Vackar invited a worker to an academy of fine arts to make his own self-portrait in clay. In the fifties under the communist regime in Czechoslovakia, as part of the communist utopia, workers were invited to make and teach art at the art schools.

Stills from ‘Live feed’ by Erin Shireff
In Shireff’s online project Live Feed (2007–ongoing) we can watch her walking around a vaguely human-shaped mound of clay that dominates her tiny studio. Though this is supposedly a ‘live feed’ of artistic creation, despite Shirreff’s constant movement the clay monolith lies inert, failing to take shape as a sculpture.

‘Field’ is an Antony Gormley installation of 35,000 clay figures made by a family of Mexican brick-makers. Gormley asked that the figures be easy to hold in one’s hands and that the head and body be in proportion to one another.
